Pre - Primary
In our pre –primary section, pre-primary one (pp1) and pre-primary two (pp2) level children are introduced to the basic literacy and numeracy skills. They are also equipped with the ability to appreciate nature and connect to the word around them through environmental studies. Religious activities as an activity area equips them with religious literacy at tender age while creative activities and pattern making improves their creativity and imagination as well as developing their fine motor skills.
Lower Primary
For the lower primary (grade 1 to 3), our school has fully embraced the competence based curriculum (C.B.C) in which 11 learning areas are allocated across a well-planned timetable which ensures that a range of activities are learned each day. The learning areas are:
- Mathematics activities
- English language activities
- Literacy activities
- Kiswahili activities
- Environmental activities
- Hygiene and nutrition
- Movement and creative activities (P.E, Music, Art and Craft lessons)
- Religious activities (C.R.E)
- Pastoral instruction (P.P.I)
- Computer studies
- Foreign language(French)
Middle and Upper Primary Levels
In this levels, we teach Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Science, Social studies and Christian Religious Education. French and Computer Studies are also taught.
To provide a holistic child, we have incorporated relevant and emerging social issues into our curriculum, such as: environmental conservation, drug and substance abuse education, gender issues, human and children rights, social and moral responsibility. These issues are addressed during the life skills lesson.
Over the years, we have nurtured the development of our children preparing them to pursue their aspirations.
Examinations and Assessments
At the beginning of every term, assessment methods are outlined through schemes of work and course outlines. Three major exams and assessments are administered termly, with the same sourced from within or outside the school. There are also continuous assessment tests (C.A.Ts) administered by the different department offices in liaison with the academics office. Pupil’s performance is recorded in a report book and parents are encouraged to regularly discuss these outcomes at class meetings or consultation forums.
Interviews
Interviews for new pupils are conducted by the office of academics and its stake holders over the holidays. The interview materials are prepared by the teaching staff. The level, as well as the domains of learning, is put into consideration during preparation of the interview tests to ensure authenticity and reliability. A calm environment is accorded to the interviewees during interview administration.
K.C.P.E Performance
Over the years, candidates prepared and presented to the national examiner by Josnah primary school teaching staff have produced estimable results. Exquisite performance in K.C.P.E has mainly been attributed to a well-informed strategy and commitment of the staff. See table 1 and 2 bellow.
